Tutorial: Entering an Index CFD Trade

After reading through this topic you will be able to:

1. Enter an Index related trade into Stator.
2. Nominate if a fixed price per contract or leveraged trade.
3. Nominate the per point move.
4. Enable the trade for "Finance Cost Express Update".
5. Assign the trade to any System.


1.   Open an Owner.

2.   Click on the "ENTER A TRADE" item of the main Stator treeview.

3.   From the "<< Position Sizing TRADE ENTRY >>" screen, select "No Model" from the drop down selection.

4.   Stator will enable the fields that you need to complete in order to enter the trade.

5.   Select "Index CFD's" from the Instrument drop down.

6.   For this example we are going to enter the following trade:

2 ASX200 Index CFD's
Fixed price per contract of AUD$1200
Per Point move = $25
Purchased: 20th December 2006 at 4500

7.   Complete the fields as shown below:

Yellow Highlighted Area
The yellow highlighted area is the instrument panel for Index related instruments which allows you to set the parameters which are specific to Index related trades.

Fixed cost per contract

If this item is ticked, you can enter the cost of a single contract by typing it into the field provided. Remember that the cost is for a single contract only.

If this item is left un-ticked, the fixed cost per contract is disabled and the leverage percentage field is enabled.

per Contract point move

Enter the point move value for a single contract in this field. Your provider should be able to provide this parameter for the trade.

For example if you enter $25, you will make $25 of profit/loss for each point that the price moves for each contract that you hold. If you hold 2 contracts you will make $50 profit/loss for each point move.

Only enter the point move for a single contract.

Point Units

Enter the units which a single point is defined.

For example:
1 = a point move of 1, i.e. 4500
0.1 = point move of 0.1 , i.e. 4500.1

8.   Click on the "Submit" button to enter this trade.

9.   From the first trade confirmation screen which appears, please enter the correct date for the trade, select the appropriate System, exchange and any other information which defines the trade.

10.  Click on the "Submit" button to bring up the final trade confirmation screen.

11.  From the final trade confirmation screen, select the "Finance Cost Management" tab.

12.  From the "Finance Cost Management" tab you can control various settings which are specific to trades which incur ongoing financing, i.e. Index CFD's etc.

13.  Click on the "Submit" button to allocate the trade to the nominated System.

14.  Trade entry complete.
