Version Specific:
Yes (Standard, Professional)

Help File Reference:
Getting Started/Registration/Registering Stator

Computers can go out-of-date very fast.

How many people do you know still using a computer which is over 10 years old?

The answer is more than likely, zero :-)

Stator license holders are no different and we understand that users will want to upgrade their computers or add new hardware to an existing computer from time to time.

In this instance the existing Stator license may no longer work to register the program and we will provide a working license so that you can continue to operate with Stator.

Each Stator license is computer specific and the unique USER DATA which is provided during the registration process is used when we generate the license which is tied to your computer.

If you are thinking about migrating your Stator installation to a new computer please read this tutorial for more information to help with your migration.

STEP 1 - Install the Stator Demo onto your new computer

Depending upon which license you hold (Stator Lite, Standard or Professional) will determine which demo to install.

For Stator Lite Users
You will be required to install the Stator Lite version demo onto your new computer. The Lite version demo is freely available from this website through the downloads section.

For Stator Standard Users
You will be required to install the Stator Standard version demo onto your new computer. The Standard version demo is freely available from this website through the downloads section.

For Stator Professional Users
You will be required to install the Stator Professional demo onto your new computer. The Professional version demo is freely available from this website through the downloads section.

By downloading and installing the latest demo you will ensure that you will operate using the latest available Stator version.

STEP 2 - Maintain your existing Portfolio Data

It's important to be able to continue using your existing portfolio data. This is a far better alternative than having to re-key all your trades and Stator makes this process easy.

From version 2.0 onwards you can connect to any Data Layer file.

To ensure that you preserve your portfolio data please ensure you maintain a copy of your Data Layer file. By default, the Data Layer is located in the "Data Layer Files folder which is located in the Stator installation folder (i.e. c:\Program Files\Stator - AFM\Data Layer Files) with the filename "mod_BaseData.prp".

Migrating your portfolio data is as simple as copying the Data Layer file from the old computer into the new computer "Data Layer Files" folder. The next time you launch Stator it will read from your original Data Layer (so long as the filename is "mod_BaseData.prp".

You can also navigate to your Data Layer file from within the Stator program.

Some additional files which you might like to copy from the old computer to the new are:

- stator.ini
various user settings

- stator_lv.conf
various user column display settings

STEP 3 - Email us your new USER DATA

The final step is to email us with your new USER DATA so that we can generate your new license.

If you have followed this tutorial, please provide us with some additional information regarding the reasons why you are upgrading so that we can provide additional support if required.

To learn how to obtain your USER DATA, please review the following tutorial.

We will email your new license as soon as we can and you will be able to register Stator to unlock the full version from the newly installed demo.
