This tutorial will assist you to find symbols/codes using Yahoo!Finance which you can use to enter into Stator.

Why use Yahoo!Finance quotes?

Yahoo!Finance provides price quotes for over 50 exchanges around the world, Stator uses the price information when it obtains the latest price using the online price update function.

In order for Stator to be able to find the latest price for each of your trades it is important to enter the trade with the correct symbol.


SEARCHING YAHOO!FINANCE

Please note that at the time of writing, all information contained in this tutorial is correct.

The first thing you will need to do is open Yahoo!Finance, the address is:
http://finance.yahoo.com/

From the main Yahoo!Finance homepage, click on the symbol lookup link to progress to the search page.

This is the search screen which you will use in order to search for the correct symbol/code to use.

Search Tips:

1. Use the "Type" dropdown to narrow your search to the specific instrument you are trying to find.
2. Use the "Market" field to filter the search to specific markets.
3. When searching without luck, try to search using some other description for the stock, index etc. For example when searching for the S&P ASX200 Index, type in ASX200 and you will obtain some hits.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
You will notice that Yahoo!Finance also provides prefixes and suffixes for each symbol. For example BHP in Australia will appear as BHP.AX, S&P ASX200 will appear as ^AXJO.

There is no requirement to enter the prefix or suffix when entering symbols/codes into Stator. The suffixes indicate the exchange to obtain the quote and the prefix indicates the quote type, i.e. Index etc.

Stator has all of these pre-programmed in and you are not required to enter them so long as the correct exchange and instrument type is selected for each trade.
