Analysing your Portfolio/Performance/Chart Types/Custom Variable

Stator provides some very sophisticated analysis tools, perhaps one of the more powerful analyisis tools is the custom variable scatter plots which you can use to analyse your trading activity in more depth.

This tutorial shows you how you can use the custom variable performance charts to learn more about your trading and to help you become a better trader.

Accessing the Custom Variable Performance Charts

1.  Select the System, Sub-Consolidation or Consolidated portfolio.
2.  Click on the "Performance" tab.
3.  Select either:
- "Closed - Custom 2 Variable Plot"
- "Closed - Custom 3 Variable Plot"
4.  This opens the custom variable screen.

Assigning the Variables

With the custom variable screen open, you can select which variables are to be plotted against each axis of the performance chart.

For the 2 variable plot, variables are chosen for the X and Y axis whereas the 3 variable plot includes a third Z axis.

For this example we will produce a scatter chart for:

Days In Trade Vs Trade Profit Percentage

We choose the "Days In Trade" variable for the X axis and the Profit Percent ME (DC) variable for the Y axis. Stator provides an explanation of each variable in the variable definition section of the custom variable screen.

Just select the variable from the drop down and Stator will return the definition.

Filtering the Selection

There may be times that you do not wish to analyse all the closed trades for the selected System, Owner or Sub-Consolidation. Stator provides you with the ability to filter the trades which will be included in the analysis and you can access the "Filter Criteria" by selecting this tab on the custom variable screen.

Generating the Chart

Once you have assigned the correct variables and set the filter criteria you can generate the performance chart by clicking on the "Generate" button.

Exploring the Chart

A unique feature is the chart Control Panel. The Control Panel opens up full control of the chart to you so that you can control every aspect of the display.

More information regarding the control panel is provided in the Stator help file under the topic:
